Notes from the Garden & Beyond - a monthly bundle of garden magic delivered to your door. Springing to Life April 2026

Hello

Hi, I'm Laura, and I’ve loved creating for as long as I can remember. Art, design, music, cooking and gardening are the things that make me feel most at home. I’ve always found it easier to express my thoughts through making rather than speaking, whether that’s something beautiful, funny, or a little bit odd. Nostalgia and memory shape so much of what I do, but above all, my work is a celebration of nature.

Creativity runs in my family. My grandmothers painted, sewed, knitted, gardened; they both approached life with quiet, joyful creativity that they passed down to my parents, who passed that same love of making on to my sister and me. Growing up, there was always something being stitched, arranged, painted, or planted. That gentle, joyful creativity is part of who I am.

I went on to study Interior Architecture, though in hindsight I often think I should have followed my heart and chosen Interior Design, a passion that still inspires me today. After university, I worked briefly as an interior architect, but the 2008 recession brought that chapter to an early end. I moved through roles that paid the bills but never truly inspired me; yet I always found myself drifting back to design in any form I could find it - website management, marketing materials, event stationery, anything that let me create.

Later, a diploma in digital marketing helped me reconnect with my design skills through content creation. But it wasn’t until I had children that everything shifted. Returning to work after my daughter Edith was born, I was almost made redundant. The news completely threw me. Faced with a difficult choice, and after a much‑needed pep talk from my partner, I decided to see it as an opportunity rather than a setback. I took reduced hours, found freelance work, taught piano, and most importantly, I started painting again.

Three years on, I’m so grateful I took that leap. Now I paint in watercolour, ink, and oils from my little corner of the South‑East of England. My art is inspired by the everyday, the normal, the overlooked, the slightly quirky bits of nature that surround us. I think it’s easy to forget that we’re sharing this planet with so many wonderful creatures, so I try to slow down, look around, and celebrate them. Cherish every flower, every snail, every strange little mushroom.

I hope my work brings people joy and maybe makes them laugh a little too. Art, music, the garden, slow living… these are my happy places.
